Barbara Durniak (Marucci), 87, beloved wife of the late Michael Durniak Sr., died on Wednesday, August 14th, at the Village at Brookfield Common. She was born June 6, 1937 in Yonkers, NY.
Barbara was the first-born child of our Italian immigrant parents. She spent her first three years on Waverly Street in the then-Italian neighbourhood, near Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, until the family moved up the hill to nicer Park Hill Avenue, where Barbara lived until she married her husband, Mike, when she was 19.
Barbara was a doting older sister to her younger sister, Roberta. By the age of eleven, she became her mom's go-to care provider for Roberta, who she took with her to day dates and to the movies to join her along with her friends.
Barbara leaves behind three children: Mike Jr. and his wife Debbie, Debbie, and Kenneth to cherish her memory. She also leaves her siblings, Roberta, and Philip and his wife Pat; and her adored grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Kevin, Justin, and Josh, who she occasionally found joy in scaring with her dark sense of humor; and her great grandchildren Trinity and Teagan. She is predeceased by her husband of many years, Mike Sr. and her daughter, baby Laura.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11AM on Monday August 19, at St. Edward the Confessor church in New Fairfield. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday August 18, from 11AM to 1PM at Cornell Memorial Home in Danbury.
