Barbara Elmore Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 13, 2015.
Barbara Allen Elmore, 76, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family, friends and beloved cat, Oliver on Saturday, May 9, 2015.

She was born September 11, 1938 in New York City, New York the daughter of the late Kenneth Allen Empey, Sr. and Edith Regina Stahli Empey. Barbara attended school at Leonardsville and Richfield Springs. Barbara married David B. Elmore, a loving union that lasted for 28 years until his death on January 14, 2011.

For 14 years, Barbara was the Town of Davenport, Town Justice. As the justice she had a positive effect on people's lives. That was really important to her.

One of the most important things in her life was her husband, David. She helped him in raising and training champion basset hounds and would travel with him to dog field trials. She also enjoyed taking a ride "around the block" and checking out their properties.

Barbara is survived by her brothers and sister, Bruce McCullough and companion, Lois Cashdollar, of Homestead, PA; Kenneth Empey, Jr. of Richfield Springs; and Michael Empey, Sr. and companion, Carol Malz; and Susan Stetson, both of West Oneonta; nieces and nephews, John McCullough; Trina Stackpoole and husband, Tom; Ken Empey, III and wife, Rebecca; Donna Walsh and fiancé, Douglas Bordinger; Mary Elderkin and husband, Bruce; Adam Empey; Jessemine Garcia and husband, Fabio; Jennifer Recchia and husband, Ron; Andrew Kenneth Bobak; Michael Empey and wife, Betsy; and Gregory Empey; as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by sisters-in-law, Jacque Empey and Sherry McCullough.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 11:00AM in the Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, Davenport with the Reverend Carol Wilson officiating. Barbara always had a special place in her heart for the small hamlet of Cullen as it runs deeply through our family's DNA. She will be buried there next to her beloved husband, David in the Crain Memorial Cemetery and amongst several previous generations of the Empey family. Burial will take place at 2:30 PM.

Memorial donations in Barbara's name may be made to the Catskill Forest Association, PO Box 336, Arkville, New York 12406, the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society, 46610 Route 10, Delhi, New York 13753, or to the Story Keeper Program at Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, New York 13820.

The family would especially like to thank Barbara's friends Dawn Finch and Christine Ackerman, both of Davenport, who were invaluable in their aid and comfort to her.

Condolences to Barbara and her Family! Barbara was a sweet Lady so full of life and energy! She was our Justice of the Peace on our wedding day in 1994 and again in 1995 when we renewed our vows! She use to tease me and say she thought we were cousin and had to be related! We Loved her and She will be deeply missed! God Bless her and may she rest in eternal peace!
