Barbara Jean Ferguson (née Allen), 70, passed away December 24, 2023 of natural causes at her home in
Louisville, KY.
She was born in 1953 in
Scottsville, NY, the eldest daughter of Roy and Mary Allen.
Barbara graduated from Alfred University in 1975 and married Bruce Wayne Ferguson, Sr on November 22, 1975. They moved to New York City where she began a career in accounting at Price Waterhouse. In 1978 they moved to Louisville KY where she and Bruce established community roots and raised 3 three children Bruce Jr, Katherine, and William.
Barbara was an active member of the Louisville community serving on many boards and charitable causes including The Louisville Ballet and Younger Women's Club. She was also a longtime active member of St Francis in the Fields Church. Soon after having her second child, Barbara opened a maternity boutique, Blooming Creations, in St. Matthew's that she successfully ran for over 10 years. Yet all those who knew Barbara and her competitive nature knew one of her true loves in life was playing Bridge with her friends. She was a part of many groups in both Louisville and Sunapee. Barbara accomplished one of the highest rankings in Bridge as a Life Master.
Aside from Bridge, Barbara loved traveling and spending time in Sunapee, NH with her husband, Bruce Sr., who she lost 2 years ago. It was their home away from home. They were members of both the Lake Sunapee Yacht Club and Baker Hill Golf Course. It is a place that will always hold special memories of dock sitting, porch cocktails, roaring fires, and many, many dinners around the table with both friends and family. In the last two years, she has continued to travel with her children and grandchildren and spending as much time with them as she could.
She is survived by her children Bruce W. Jr. (Abbey), Kate Ferguson Weber (Chad), and Will: grandchildren, Bruce W. III (Tripp), Tate, Fallon, Delaney, Luke, Walker and Willow. Siblings Patty (Fred), Jim (Marge), Scott (Kathy), Steve (Karen) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is pre-deceased by her loving husband of 46 years, Bruce Wayne Ferguson, Sr (2021), her mother, Mary Allen (2017), and father, Roy Allen (1992).
