Barbara was my Mom. I am 54, and have never met another that compares. You may say I'm biased...maybe, but what woman these days stays committed to five kids ages 2-12, and raises them on a secretaries salary? We never knew we were poverish. We thought we we comfortable middle class. Thats the way Barbara did things. She didn't blame her ex husband, she didn't blame the government, she didn't blame society, she didn't blame God. In fact, her faith in God is what was her foundation. There were many lonely nights, out in the country, miles away from anything, much to be afraid of. A few crank calls, an old farm house so cold, that snow would settle inside the loose window on the floor at night. She was deathly afraid of snakes, yet they flourished in the basement where she had to do the laundry. She made lunches for five, bathed, dressed, fed and got them all off to school every day....on time! Never asked for help from NO ONE. Somehow, we always had a few presents under the Christmas tree, we always had a new outfit to wear the first day of school. We always had food to eat. I honestly don't know how she did it, but on top of it all, she managed to keep a smile on her face, and made us believe that everything was going to be alright.
All five of her children have married...and stayed married. All five are extremely successful in their finances, homes, families and all five still communicate regularly, even though 5,000 miles separates some of them. You can say I'm biased if you want, but I'd compare her to the greatest woman that ever walked the face of this earth...and she would be in like company.

Her second son, Tom Kallander
Seattle, WA three children, four grandchildren. (Barbara therefore had five great grandchildren!)
