Barbara Beckner Goodman

AURORA, NC – Barbara Beckner Goodman, 94, of Aurora, formerly of Greensboro, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 26, 2026. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro, NC.

Mrs. Goodman was born May 11, 1931, in Clemmons, NC, to the late Ross and Estell Beckner. She was a woman of great faith, a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She loved working in her flower gardens. She graduated from Clemmons High School in 1949 and Woman's College of the University of North Carolina in 1953 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught in the Guilford County Schools from 1953 to 1988.

She married Herbert Holt Goodman on December 22, 1951, and he preceded her in death in 1993. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, H. Mark Goodman; her brother-in-law, Charles Leonard Hutchens; and her nephew, Charles Leonard Hutchens, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, B. Ellen Mercer, and her husband, Danny, of Aurora; granddaughters, Lindsay Goodman Devine, and her husband, Cory, of Kure Beach and Kellie D. Mercer of Washington, NC; and her sister, Dorothy B. Hutchens, of Clemmons.
