Barbara Lanier Green, 83 was born on August 22, 1941, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to Anna Gertrude Conley Lanier and Gene Oscar Lanier, Sr. She passed away after a courageous battle with dementia and cancer surrounded by the love of her family.
A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Barbara lived a life full of purpose, love, and service. As a "military baby," she spent her early years living in various places, including Mississippi, West Virginia, Michigan, France, Williamsburg, and
Yorktown, Virginia. She graduated from York High School in 1961, where she was a cheerleader and a member of the Dancing Dozen. It's where she met the love of her life, Robert Wayne "Bobby" Green and they were married on a hot, 100-degree, May 19th, 63 years ago – a remarkable testament to their enduring love.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband Bobby and together they raised three children: Cindy Green Willis (husband Mark), Danny Green, and Timothy Green (wife Teresa). Barbara was a proud and loving "Mimi" to her four grandchildren: Bryce and Evan Willis, and Trevor and Jeremy Green.
She is preceded in death by her parents Gene Oscar Lanier Sr, Anna Gertrude Conley Lanier, and her stepmother Virginia Lanier; her brother Gene O. Lanier, Jr. (Bucky) and family cat Precious. She is loved by her surviving siblings Sandra Stotesberry, Sister-in-Law Christine (Sheree) Lanier (Bucky), Mary Vee Ledford and husband Terry, Lillie Mae Berrios and Bill Rice, Denny Lanier and wife Kitty and Simone Perviance and husband Joe. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she loved dearly and who demonstrated so much love to her over the years.
Barbara began her career at the College of William and Mary Law Library. Over the years, she contributed to the family business, T.C. Green Eggs, and later worked at Joanne's Fabric store and Pressure Systems Inc., all while raising her children.
Her heart for service was evident in all she did-volunteering at the Sarah Bonwell Hudgins Center, caring for elderly neighbors, and giving generously of her time and energy to others.
Barbara enjoyed bowling in many leagues over the years and loved attending sporting events in which her family participated.
A lifelong member of Providence United Methodist Church in Dare, Virginia, Barbara was deeply involved in her faith community. She served as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, and member of the Lucy Cocke Circle. She was also an active Room Mother at Dare Elementary School.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the nurses who so compassionately cared for Barbara a home: Lisa, Jennifer, Andrea, Burlette, and Sheryl'lee.
