Barbara Jean Hampton, 87, passed away Friday, December 6, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 2PM on Monday, December 16, 2024 at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home with visitation to be held for an hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery following the service. Pastor Trish Reedstrom will be officiating.
Barbara was born on March 25, 1937 in Albert Lea, MN to Kenneth and Minnie (Masek) Hoium. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church. She married Richard Cameron in 1954 and though they later divorced, their union produced a son, Greg Cameron. She later married Willie Hampton and together they had three children: Dawn (Don) Brotherton, Michael Hampton, and Shari Sipple.
Barbara had a long and varied career. She managed two stores in Albert Lea, The Thoughtfulness Shop and King Optical. She worked as a bartender at the Aragon Bar and her final job was as a Clerk at Sterling Drug Store. She finally retired in the late 90’s.
For eleven years, she took care of her grandson (her baby) until his death.
She is preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Minnie Hoium, sister and brother-in-law Betty and Duane Haines, son Michael Hampton, son-in-law Don Brotherton, and grandsons Jeremy Hampton and Michael Brotherton.
Barbara is survived by her children Greg Cameron, Dawn (Don) Brotherton, and Shari Sipple; brothers Ronald Hoium, Roger (Trish) Hoium, and Richard (Sue) Hoium; grandchildren Heather (Bri) Godtland, Travis (Heather) Cameron, Kari (Joel) Sween, Cody (Ali) Gudgeon, and Taylor Hemenway; great grandchildren Haley, Trista, and Travis Cameron, Easton, Peyton, and Britton Sween and Andrew Godtland; and great-great grandchildren Jayden, Jemma, and Jeziah.
