Obituary of Barbara Anne Hanson
Barbara Anne (Storm) Hanson passed away peacefully at home on February 25th, 2025 at the age of 85. In her final days she was surrounded by her family.
Barbara went by many names in her life time (Barb, Bobbe, Aunt, Ma, Grandma, Great Grandma). She was born and raised in Minneapolis MN. She was the second child of Emil and Anne Storm. As a child she dreamed of becoming a Vet. In her teenage years she loved to go horseback riding along the MN River from the Shady Valley Horse Ranch. Barb went to business college and graduated 5/25/56. During her senior year of High School, she met and dated Harold Hanson.
Barb became an aunt in the year 1956 and again in 1959
Barb and Harold married Nov. 9th 1956 and moved to Bloomington, MN. Together they had 3 children. This marriage ended in 1962. Shortly after, Barb met Johnny Bankord, they married on Nov 11th 1963. During this marriage Johnny was drafted into the Army and fought in the Vietnam War. There were some good memories made going up to the Bankord farm in Sebeka, MN. After Johnny returned from the war, he was not the same and their marriage ended. However, they remained good friends and kept in touch.
Barb was once again on her own raising 3 children. She had no choice but to "GET A GRIP" and take control. She did have a fun side, she would pack up the car with the kids and drive up north to visit family and friends in Nisswa, MN area (lots of fun and some good memories were made). As the kids got older, they definitely added to her grey hairs, but she managed to raise 3 great kids. Barb also became 'MOM' to a lot of her kid's friends.
Barb became a grandma in the year 1976 at the age of 37, with a total of 5 grandkids. She became a Great Grandma in the year 1994 at the age of 55, with a total of 6 great grandkids. She got so much joy out of being a grandma and great grandma, and was always there with her advice, whether or not you wanted it. She loved watching the grandkids grow whether in person, pictures, or video calls she wanted to see it all.
Barb was a very creative person, she loved wood working (the cows on the garage), knitting (all the grandkids got hats and things), writing (she had some pieces make it to the newspaper), painting (inside, outside, or anywhere she could) and gardening (she really mastered how to grow some great pumpkins - that usually fed her squirrels).
Barb loved all animals. She has had dogs, cats, and a ton of parakeets plus some. In her later years she had the squirrels and birds outside. She loved watching and feeding the squirrels, she looked forward to it every morning, even in the cold.
She had an opinion on anything and everything and she was more than happy to share it with you (whether you asked or not). She also loved to give free advice. It was who she was!
Barb was famous for saying "GET A GRIP!"
We will miss you Barbara, Barb, Bobbe, Aunt, Ma, Grandma, Great Grandma (which ever name you knew her by). You were one of a kind!
Barbara was preceded in death by: Anne Storm (Mom), Emil Storm (Dad), Sharon Givans (Sister), Julie Givans (Niece In-law), Jim Givans (Brother In-law), Cheryl Atkinson (unofficial daughter).
She is survived by:

A month has gone by already and I still haven't exactly accepted or acknowledged that you are gone, Grandma. I have so many fond memories with you as a child, specifically when I went to your house before and after school. Every morning I would listen to you arguing with the news while I sat there playing the handheld Yahtzee game you had. You gave that Yahtzee to me a few years back and I will keep it forever. You drove me nuts when little Shayne was born - you had so many opinions and were not afraid to share them! I even had friends messaging me asking me "who's this Barb lady?!" But you meant well and, to be fair, you had your fair share of experience as many of your years were dedicated to your children, your grandchildren, and your great grandchildren. To say you are missed is an understatement... We all promise to keep the "oh phooeys" and the "get a grips" going. And every time I hear the Oscar Meyer weenie song or hear somebody say "see you later, alligator", I will think of you always.
