Ms. Barbara Ann Bowers Hickman, 81, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Tuesday evening, December 9, 2025, at her residence.
Born September 11, 1944, in Colleton County, she was a daughter of the late Arnold Bowers and Bernice Elizabeth Roberts Bowers. She was a retired weaver for J.P. Stevens where she worked for 40 years. Barbara was known for her love of her God, family and friends. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Black Creek Baptist Church for 80 years. She had a servant’s heart and enjoyed serving behind the scenes at her beloved church, whether being I charge of Sunday School attendance and materials or helping in other capacities. She especially enjoyed mailing bulletins with encouraging messages, scripture and poems to the shut-ins. Her mother would often accompany her on visits to see them.
Barbara was known throughout Colleton County for the beautiful and delicious cakes that she made for birthdays, weddings, and other special occasions. She was an excellent seamstress making her clothes as well as those in her family. She loved all kinds of crafts but mostly crocheting beautiful afghans and dollies to show her love to others.
Surviving are: her children, Reginald Hickman and Jean Hickman Thompson; grandchildren, Megan Hickman Fulp (Dakota) and Regan Hickman; honorary children, Chris Hickman (Darlene), Monica Hadwin (Allen), Melissa Postell, and Kathy Bowen (Mike); as well as her nieces, April Cantor and Angela Bowers; great nieces and nephews, Autumn Cantor, Ariel Bowers and Toby Bowers; great great nephew, Eden; and her lifelong friends from her work and her church that she dearly loved.
