Barbara Jean (Dixon) Jones Holt of Arkansas City, Kansas; passed away on June 13, 2014 at St. Frances Hospital of Wichita, Kansas at the age of 86 due to complications from heart surgery. The family of Barbara Holt cordially invites you to attend a meet and greet service from 6:00-8:00pm on June 20, 2014 at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home located at 100 East Kansas Avenue; Arkansas City, Kansas 67005. Per Barbara's request, she will be cremated and her remains will be buried along the side of her late husband, W. Gordon Holt. Graveside services for this ceremony will occur on June 21, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Arkansas City, KS. Pastor Ted Brown will officiate. Barbara was born February 4, 1928 in Arkansas City prematurely weighing only 3 ½ pounds. She slept in a shoebox and was carried around on a pillow by her parents, Charles Arthur and Charlotte Mae (Clark) Dixon. Barbara was reared and educated in Arkansas City where she also spent her retirement years. Barbara was married to Richard Earl Jones (now deceased) and born into this union are survived children, Vicki Jean Jackson of Arkansas City, Kansas and Tony R. Jones of Corpus Christi, Texas. Barbara later married W. Gordon Holt (now deceased) where they lived in the Corpus Christi, Texas area for 45 years. Barbara also spent many years as an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Arkansas City, KS. Barbara was the baby of 14 children and is preceded in death by 9 brothers: Ray, Kenneth, Leland, Lewis, Charles, Norton, Everett, Newell, and Robert Dixon and 4 sisters: Eva Greenhaw, Nina Dixon, Nevada Rhodes, and Bonnie Taylor. Survivors include her two children: Vicki J. Jackson and Tony R. Jones and two step children: Bobby Holt of Livingston, Texas; Ronnie Holt of Liberty Hill, Texas and preceded in death by one step daughter: Lynn Carpenter of Collinsville, Texas. Barbara also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and many loved great and great-great grandchildren along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and life long friends. She is also survived by her loving friend, George Milton Gabbert of Arkansas City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers the family asks that friends may donate to a charity of their choice.
