Augusta, GA – Barbara Tucker Howard, 72, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 7, 2025. She was the devoted wife and best friend of Andrew Howard for 45 wonderful years, and a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many.
Born and raised in Augusta, Barbara was the daughter of the late Oscar and Bertha Tucker. She grew up in the Frog Hollow community, where her roots ran deep. Barbara attended Tubman Junior High and graduated from the Academy of Richmond County.
She built a life grounded in kindness, family, and hard work. Barbara spent many years at Carole Fabrics and later retired from Fitz-Symms Photography, where she was known for her cheerful spirit, dependability, and warm smile.
Barbara had a deep love for the outdoors. She and Andrew shared countless memories camping and fishing together, and she never missed a chance to be near the water. The beach was her happy place—where she felt most at peace.
Family was everything to Barbara. She was affectionately known as “Grandma” by her grandsons, whom she adored with all her heart. Holidays were her favorite—especially when her home was filled with the warmth of loved ones, good food, and laughter.
One of her sweetest quirks was her love of giving nicknames to the people she cherished most. Each name was a special badge of affection, and those lucky enough to receive one knew just how deeply they were loved.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Andrew; her daughters, Lisa Willis (Jimmy) and Jennifer Fletcher (Larry); her grandsons, Blake Hoover (Kenzie), Ryan Willis, Bryce Hoover, and Jackson Fletcher; close friends, Priscilla Davis and her daughter, Jennifer; and her beloved dog, Molly. She is also survived by many dear friends and extended family members who will miss her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her cherished pups Lucy, Taylor, and Runt—faithful companions who brought her joy and comfort over the years.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. Barbara will be remembered for her quick wit, her gentle heart, and the way she made everyone feel like family. To know her was to love her.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church with Mr. Mike Young officiating. Friends and family are invited to come, share memories, and honor the life of someone truly special.
