Barbara Torrence Kent

1932 - 2025

Barbara Kent, age 93, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, in Savannah, GA. Barbara is survived by her loving husband Samuel D. Kent, daughter Anne Kent Lowe and her husband Dennis of Tybee Island, GA, son S. Davis Kent and his wife Tammy of Yorba Linda CA, three granddaughters, two grandsons, and five great-grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her brother John Torrence Jr. and her parents.

Barbara lived a full and happy life. She was born on June 18, 1932, in North Carolina to parents John and Louie Torrence. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The College of William and Mary. She met her high school sweetheart, Sam, in Danville, VA and they were married for nearly 70 years. They raised their family in Roanoke, VA and later moved to Bent Tree Community in Jasper, GA to be closer to their daughter and her family. Together, they traveled the world and pursued many passion-projects like flipping houses and researching genealogy, but mostly they enjoyed spending time with each other and their extended family.

Barbara had a successful career as a high school math teacher, where her kind but firm approach earned her the respect and appreciation of her many students over the years. Her kindness also led her to make many friends throughout her life. She was very involved in her church and spent many years as an active and enthusiastic volunteer at The Community Thrift Store in Jasper. Barbara was also a loving and devoted grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Barbara will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her family will gather privately to honor her life.
