Barbara Kinsley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lowery - Urban Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. on Jan. 27, 2026.
Barbara (Casselbury) Kinsley, of Sayre-previously of Waverly and Athens-passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at the Sayre Healthcare Center, across Tozer's Bridge.

Barbara was born on February 13, 1937, at Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira, NY, to the late Dorothy (Alba) and Carl Casselbury. She made most of her childhood and teenage memories at her family home on Edward Street in Athens, alongside her sister, Nancy, and her special cousin, Ronnie Carmer.

Barbara graduated from Athens High School in 1955, after which she entered nursing training at the Robert Packer Hospital. She remained the Athens High School Class of 1955 reunion treasurer, and in 2025 the class celebrated their 70th reunion. She remained a loyal Athens Bulldog her entire life.

Throughout her life, Barbara stayed actively involved with her children, grandchildren, and community, participating in both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and she also coached softball. She was an avid New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan.

Barbara was a talented crocheter, and every Christmas the family could count on receiving homemade gifts-scarves, hats, dishcloths, or scrubbies. She loved bowling and was part of many leagues at Valley Bowling Center. Barbara also enjoyed crafts such as painting figurines and pictures, drawing, and building miniatures. An avid bird watcher, she always wanted to make sure the bird feeders outside her home were full. She loved her gardens and plants and was always looking for something new to grow.

Barbara was predeceased by the love of her life, Dr. Kenneth "Doc" Kinsley, whom she mourned for 19 years. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her younger siblings, Nancy (Casselbury) Tracy and Carl "Butchie" Casselbury, as well as one of her beloved grandchildren, Ryan Corl, and special childhood friend, Suzie O'Dell. She was also predeceased by her pen pal in England, Judith Rock, with whom she wrote for 70 years.

Barbara is survived by her six children: Carol Kinsley (Rob); Karen Henson (Fred); Kelly (Ronald) Geiger; Kenneth (Patricia) Corl; Kris (Renee) Kinsley; and Corine Cowles (Jerry).

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Justin (Sarah) Trudeau; Jessica Trudeau; Kenneth (Lauren) Corl; Jennifer (Dustin) Reisman; Charles (Paulo) Lynch; Andrew (Emily) Kinsley; Kyle (Kennedy) Kinsley; Benjamin (Stephanie) Cowles; William (Kristina) Cowles; Alexandra Kinsley-Grace; and Sydney Grace (Duane). Barbara is also survived by many great-grandchildren, along with special nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Along with a special niece, Nancy Mink.

A special thank you to Alissa Merrill, who-during the last few years of Barbara's life-was like a granddaughter to her, as well as to the wonderful staff at the Sayre Healthcare Center and Guthrie Hospice.

As per Barbara's wishes, the family will wait 24 hours to-"make sure she is really gone"-before cremation at Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. in Athens. A Time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 from 11am-1pm at Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 S. Main St., Athens. Services will follow at the funeral home at 1pm with Pastor Anne Canfield officiating, with final interment at Tioga Point Cemetery alongside her love, Ken Kinsley.
