Barbara Leder

Barbara Zayne Alexander Leder was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1938. She passed away on May 4, 2025, in Bridgeport, CT. She is survived by her husband, Frederic Leder, her son Henry Alexander Leder, her daughter-law, Danielle Alyce Leder and her grandsons, Benjamin and Jonathan.
Barbara was educated at the university of Buffalo and Brooklyn College, where she majored in history and trained for a career in high school teaching.
Her first job was as a buyer for Sachs Fifth Avenue. Her first project was a wholesale purchase of Irish sweaters which was so successful that she was offered a promotion. All her life she paid a great deal of attention to style and value in clothing.
She left the clothing business to follow the career she was trained for, high school history teacher.
In 1971 she married Frederic Leder, and moved to South Orange, New Jersey. They soon had two children, Helene Jill Leder and Henry Alexander Leder. Barbara took a teaching job in a private school for disabled children. She was able to rapidly move learning disabled children up to or close to normal grade level. A truly remarkable accomplishment.
In 1976 the family moved to Newport Beach, California. Where Barbara became active in the local elementary school. Her husband was a research director for Occidental Petroleum. In 1983 the family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Barbara taught at the local synagogue.
In 1995 the family moved back to the northeast, and settled in Fairfield, CT. As a family they enjoyed river cruises and foreign travel. At the time of her death Barbara Leder was 86 years old.
