Barbara Lorence Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Czopek Funeral Directors on Jan. 13, 2026.
Barbara Jean Lorence Age 80, of Trenton, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Corewell Health in Trenton. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. A lifelong member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church for 50 years until its closing, she lived her faith through service and community. She was actively involved in her daughters' Girl Scout troops and loved volunteering on her daughter's swim team. She also enjoyed watching her granddaughter do gymnastics. Barbara had a passion for horses and enjoyed cooking and baking-her cheesecake was legendary among family and friends. She cherished attending her grandchildren's events, whether it was swimming, baseball, diving, or horseback riding. Her presence was a constant source of love and encouragement. Born Barbara Jean Bardun, she married the love of her life, Benjamin Lorence, on May 18, 1968. Together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. Barbara is survived by her husband Benjamin; daughters Nicole (Tom) Van Sickle and Kerry (Joshua) Swanton; grandchildren Parker, Benjamin, Carly, Beckett, and Isla; and her sister Sharon (Ron) Baspbury. Barbara's warmth, generosity, and devotion to family will be deeply missed by all who knew her. For 55 years, my parents lived next door to Ben and Barbara Lawrence. They raised their families together... Ben and Barbara´s girls, Kerry and Nikki, and my parents kids, Kathy, Kim (me), and Billy. So I knew Barbara almost my entire life. Ben and Barbara were the best neighbors you could ever hope for. Always ready to lend a hand. Barbara maintained everything meticulously including her family, her appearance, and her home. When she was pregnant with her children I remember her talking to me about the names she had chosen for her girls. I remember her working at Jacobsen´s and doing taxes. I babysat for her girls and I recall her letting them come next door when they were very young to visit us. In later years, after I moved out and had a family, I took my kids on Halloween to trick or treat at my old neighborhood and Barb and I would stand on the porch and catch up. Very recently, I created a Facebook account and found her name and friend requested her. We texted on Facebook last week on Wednesday, January 7th, and the conversation went until early Thursday morning, until I suggested that we should both be asleep by that time. Even though I haven´t lived in my parents´ house for forty years, I always wanted to stay connected in some way to the Lawrences because they were such good people. I wish we had been Facebook friends longer, but I´m glad without realizing that I recently had the chance to say goodbye, even via text. I will miss her very much and I know that she is comforted now in Heaven.

Love,
Kim, Carl, Ashley and Carter (The Martin-Borghi family)

I've known Barb for 30yrs since she started doing my taxes. Although we only saw each other once a year, we shared so much with each other, talking for hours, catching up with each others lives and families, as if no time had passed at all. Thank you Barb and Ben for welcoming me into your home, into your family and into your lives. Rest easy my friend.
