Legacy of Life
Barbara Jean Marrow, affectionately known as "Bobbie Jean," was born on August 14, 1937, in
Newport News, Virginia, to the late Enoch and Connie Samuels of Pee Dee, South Carolina. On Friday, November 28, 2025, at the age of 88, Bobbie peacefully departed this earthly life to be with her Heavenly Father.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert Emanuel Marrow, Sr. She was the youngest of her siblings: sisters Rose Etter Green, Gertrude Thomas, Phyllis Stevenson, and Dorothy Murphy, brothers Timothy, Joseph, and Isaiah Samuels.
Bobbie Jean attended Huntington High School, home of the Vikings, in
Newport News, Virginia. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Her faith remained steadfast throughout her life, and she continued attending church well into her senior years. Her final church home was Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple, where she served faithfully as a Deaconess. She loved to sing, worship, and pray, and she never hesitated to lead blessings during fellowship, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. She often shared words of encouragement and reminded everyone to keep their faith. One of her favorite scriptures was Isaiah 1:19: "If you are willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land."
Bobbie's greatest joy came from caring for her family as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She found fulfillment in the everyday rhythms of cooking, cleaning, and shopping. She cherished attending her children's school activities, sporting events, and social gatherings. She also loved cheering them on, traveling, and staying connected with her high school classmates.
Known for her kind spirit and gentle demeanor, Bobbie Jean was the embodiment of compassion and grace.
She kept God at the center of her life, leaning on prayer and scripture for strength and guidance. She was always impeccably poised, polished, and effortlessly glamorous. Whether at home, in church, or among friends, she carried herself with a timeless elegance that touched everyone around her.
Bobbie Jean leaves a lasting legacy in the hearts of her family. She is survived by her three sons: Albert Emanuel Marrow Jr. (LaVon) of Hampton, VA; Kevin Anthony Marrow (Ava) of Hampton, VA; and George William Marrow (Denize) of Chicago, IL.
She was also a guiding influence and second mother to two very special nieces whom she helped raise: Crystal Milligan of Maryland and Kellye Wooten of North Carolina.
She is cherished by nine grandchildren: Ashley Willis (Zac) of Texas, Sherrard Marrow (Amica) of Virginia, Miles Marrow of Oregon, and Marseille Marrow of Virginia, the children of Albert; Kia Lawrence (Markus) of South Carolina, Kimberly Marrow and Kelsey Marrow of Virginia, the children of Kevin; Courtney Marrow and William J. Marrow of Illinois, the children of George.
Bobbie Jean's love continues through her five great-grandchildren: Aaron Willis, child of Ashley; Milani and Amira Marrow, children of Sherrard; Trenton and Tai Lawrence, children of Kia.
She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, all of whom were touched by her warmth, strength, and unwavering love.
