Barbara Jean McKee, a beloved resident of Scio, Oregon, passed away peacefully in Salem, Oregon, on April 24, 2025, at the age of 86. Barbara was born on October 15, 1938, in Corvallis, Oregon, and she brought warmth and light to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Barbara graduated from Eddyville High School and spent her early years in Salem before settling in Scio in 1972. On March 15, 1969, she married Richard McKee in Reno, Nevada, marking the beginning of a loving partnership. Before marrying, Barbara had a career as a meter maid in Klamath Falls. She also contributed to her community through her work at Marion Estates and a cannery in Stayton.
Barbara was an exceptional cook and gardener, passions that brought joy to her family and friends. Her cinnamon twists and garlic chicken were celebrated favorites, and she took pride in canning tomatoes from her garden to make homemade tomato soup and tomato juice. Barbara's generosity and kindness shone brightly during the holiday season, as she made homemade candies and treats for neighbors, delivery drivers, and anyone lucky enough to cross her path.
Barbara is predeceased by her beloved husband Richard, her brothers Bill and Rodney, and her great-grandson Austin Richard McKee. She is survived by her loving children Brent Vernon Henderson and Beverly Jean Davis. She is also survived by her grandchildren Randi Michelle Heuberger, Austin Ray Henderson, Justin Dwayne Dobson, Teresa Ann Burlison, and Brian Lee McKee; as well as her great-grandchildren Brennen Dwayne Dobson, Hazel Alexandria Dobson, Aiyana Lee Heuberger, Kaya Ray Heuberger, Adalyn Jean Burlison, and Carly Lynn McKee.
Her social spirit and genuine affection for others made Barbara a treasured presence in her community. As a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), she was dedicated to supporting those who served, and memorial contributions can be made to the VFW in her honor.
Barbara's life will be celebrated at a memorial service on Thursday, May 1st, at 11:00 AM at Weddle Funeral Service in Stayton, Oregon. Her legacy of love, generosity, and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
