Barbara Medrzycowski Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home on Dec. 19, 2025.
Barbara Tencza Medrzycowski passed away peacefully on, December 11, 2025, leaving behind a legacy that reached far beyond her children. Barbara was a strong and extraordinary woman whose life was defined by service, resilience, and love.

Barbara was born in Meriden, Connecticut. She was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford. She then went on to graduate from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1960. Those early years shaped the selfless, independent woman she became-someone who worked hard, stood firm, and always put others first.

She proudly serve two years as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force Reserve, a reflection of her inner strength and sense of duty. Barbara later dedicated more than 46 years to healthcare, where her work at Southern Baptist Hospital and Mercy Hospital in New Orleans and Kenner Regional/Ochsner, touched countless lives. She was respected for her knowledge, trusted for her judgment, and loved for the compassion she showed in even the hardest moments.

She taught the meaning of family not by blood alone, but by commitment, compassion, and consistency. Her nurturing spirit knew no limits. She opened her heart and her home, becoming a mother figure, confidant, and protector to many. Through her strength, patience, and quite wisdom, she shaped lives and families, often without recognition-because caring for others was who she was. To those she loved, she was a steady presence-someone who showed up, listened, and loved fiercely. Her influence lives on in the values she instilled and the lives she helped raise, guide, and heal.

She is survived by those who were blessed to call her family, including her daughter, Ann Medrzycowski Turner (Bob), Daniel Medrzycowski (Stephanie); granddaughters, Brittany Turner Martin (Ryan), Kym Cortez, Randi Cortez, Alicia Clifton (Rob) and Brandy Gaudet; many great-grandchildren and her sister, Rose Tencza. She was preceded in death by her father, Carol W. Tencza; mother, Rose Pierzca Tenzca; stepmother, Gertrude Wolak Tenzca; daughter, Christine Cortez; and sister, Theresa Tenzca Walker.

Though she is no longer with us, her legacy is found in the people she raised, the lives she healed, and the many who were better simply because she was part of their lives. Her gentle encouragement, steady presence, and fierce love created a foundation that will carry on through generations. Whether through patio conversation, shared laughter, or life lessons given at just the right moment, her impact is profound and lasting. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered as the heart of our family.

A service to honor and remember Barbara's life will be held on January 24, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, located at 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner, LA 70062. The family invites all who knew and loved Barbara to join them in celebrating her remarkable life.
