Barbara Meyer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Simpson-Modetz Riverside Chapel on Nov. 8, 2024.
Barbara Ann Meyer of White Lake Township died peacefully of a brain aneurysm on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024, surrounded by her five children.
Born Jan. 16, 1939, to Mary and Stanley Prus, Barbara attended St. Hedwig School, where she developed a love for the Catholic church, from which she drew strength throughout her life. She earned a nursing degree and loved working with patients, though she put her career on hold after she married Ronald Bernas in 1960; the two had five children.
Barbara was devoted to her children, instilling in them a love of reading, canning, cooking, gardening, sewing and other home arts that have been passed down to future generations. Barbara enjoyed singing in choirs and had a hearty, wonderful laugh.
Barbara and Ron were divorced. In 1992 she married Earl Meyer and they moved to Salem, South Carolina, where she continued her nursing career while tending to her ailing mother. After Earl died in 2017, Barbara moved back to metro Detroit where she lived with family until the demands of her dementia required a long-term care facility.
She is survived by her five children Ellen (Ken) Krenz, Susan (Tom) Attard, Ron (Kate) Bernas, Mark (Michelle) Bernas and Kurt (Cathy) Bernas; grandchildren Tim (Jamie), Jake (Caitlin) and Stan Krenz; Jessica (Michael) Nelson, Julia (Connor) Ryan, Ronnie Attard; and Patrick, Charlie, Daniel, Eleanor, Abbey, Emily, Alex and Steven Bernas. She had five great-grandchildren and one due in the spring. She is predeceased by her parents and a sister, Carol (Doug) Blomberg.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, at the Riverside Chapel, Simpson-Modetz Funeral Home, 5630 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford; a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at St. Perpetua Catholic Church, 134 Airport Road in Waterford followed by a lunch. Burial will be private at a later date in St. Hedwig Cemetery.
