Barbara Moldan

Barbara Adell Moldan (Stevens), 79, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 13, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Barbara was born on September 26, 1946. She grew up in the Black Hills area and attended Lead High School, where she formed many lifelong friendships.

Barbara lived a life centered on family, creativity, and community. She had a deep love for crafts and handmade creations, always finding joy in making things with her hands and sharing them with others. Her passion for history and local culture led her to become one of the founders of the Carthage Straw Bale Museum, a place that reflects her dedication to preserving unique pieces of community heritage.

Family was the heart of Barbara's life. She is survived by her husband, Norbert Moldan. She was previously married to David Hurne.

Barbara was a loving mother to her children Kenneth O'Dell (Ruby), James Hurne, and David Hurne. She was also a proud grandmother to six grandchildren and a cherished great-grandmother to eleven great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.

Barbara is also survived by her siblings Stephen, Laurie, and Teresa. She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Margaret Stevens and her brothers Terry and Glenn.

Barbara will be remembered for her warm heart, creative spirit, and deep devotion to her family and community. She touched many lives through her kindness, generosity, and the simple joy she found in sharing her talents and stories.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Carthage Community Center at a later date.
