Barbara Moody Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 10, 2012.
Moody, Barbara Anne Johnson, a life-long educator, succumbed to a lingering illness on September 10, 2012 at age 83. In Little Rock, Arkansas, Barbara was a teacher, district-wide Arts Coordinator, and a leader in the Arkansas Education Association and Little Rock Classroom Teachers Association. Tenacious and determined, she was famous for fighting authorities to secure teacher and student rights, leading Little Rock teachers on strike in the 1970s. She called her dog "School Board" and relished its obedience to her commands. Upon retirement, she was a museum docent and worked with the Arkansas Arts Council. She also indulged her lifelong fashion flair by working in a friend's boutique, and by outfitting her daughters, grandchildren, and their dolls stylishly. Preceded in death by parents Donald and Gladys Johnson, brother Donald "Bud" Johnson, and daughter Ann Elizabeth Moody. She is survived by children Martha Iroff (Marty) of Knoxville, TN, Margaret Moody (Charles Lin) of Arlington, MA, and Robert W. Moody of Jacksonville, AR. and by grandchildren Anna, Ellen and Rachel Iroff, and Naomi, Robert, and Frances Lin. Grandma-ma, you were one of a kind. Resten lätt, episka! The family expresses appreciation to Doctors Morton, Morrison, and Adkins and to the caring nurses and staff of Manor House Assistive Living. Graveside service, 11:00 AM Friday, September 14, 2012 to be led by Rabbi Alon Ferency at Edgewood Cemetery, 229 Gallaher View Road; followed by family visitation at Brookshire Commons, Brookshire Way.
