Barbara Gail Overton Myrick, 78, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her parents, O.B. Overton and Helen Overton, her sister, Patricia "Pat" Overton Irby, her father and mother-in-law, David and Lucille Myrick and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A loving wife of 60 years, a loving mother and grandmother went to be with the Father. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was affectionately called "Wa Wa" by her first granddaughter, Lauren and it became her title forever with all of us, young and old.
She worked for many years at Clara Hearne Pre-K. She dearly loved her children and the children she helped teach over the years. It is for this reason, in lieu of flowers, please honor her memory with a donation to a children's charity of choice.
Barbara is survived by her husband, David of sixty years; her sons, David G. Myrick II (Amy), Jonathan Chad Myrick (Beth); her grandchildren, Lauren Myrick, David G. Myrick III (fiance' Anna), Morgan Clary Myrick; her niece, Denisa Irby Huser (Jeff); a great niece, Cameron Huser Spurgeon (Chris).
The family will have a gathering at a later date in celebration and remembrance.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for our loss. A heartfelt thanks to her loving and faithful friend for many years, Linda Brewer (James).
Thank you for the care and kindness given by all the nurses and aides with Gentiva Hospice.
