Barbara Nelson

Barbara Marie Dupree Nelson, age 89, passed away peacefully. She was born on March 2, 1936, in Bayou Jacques, Louisiana, to Dallas Dupree and Lelia Aguillar Dupree.
A Memorial service will be held on Thursday January 15, 2026, at Gallagher Funeral Home & Crematory Visitation will be Thursday January 15, 2026, from 9:00am until the service hour. Private burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Barbara dedicated many years of faithful service to the United States Post Office, where she ultimately served as Postmaster of the Georgetown, La. Post Office. She took great pride in her work and in serving her community.
A woman full of life and love, Barbara enjoyed singing at church, dancing, shopping, and gardening her flowers. Above all, she cherished time spent loving on her grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Murrell Nelson, her son Kemp Nelson; her brothers, Kenneth Dupree, Harold Dupree, and Ronnie Dupree; and her sister, Wilda Dupree.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Kendra Fancher of Pollock, Louisiana; her brother, Perry Dupree of Houston, Texas; her daughter in law Felicia Nelson and her beloved grandchildren, Peyton Nelson, Kaleb Nelson, Hunter Nelson, Jordan Nelson and Kensey Fancher.
Barbara Marie Dupree Nelson will be remembered for her joyful spirit, her devotion to family, and the love she shared with all who knew her.
