Barbara Ann O'Keefe, 83, of Wellington died Thursday January 12, 2023. Born on November 6, 1939 in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Rhea (nee Rice) O'Keefe. Barb was a 1957 graduate of Wellington High School.
Barb worked at the Wellington Village Market for over 50 years. She proudly served as the mayor of the Village of Wellington for 22 years, she was the first female and the first Catholic mayor of the village as well. Barb was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Parish. She was also actively involved with Well-Help and the Wellington Senior Bus. She volunteered with Lorain Community Action and served on the board of St. Patrick's Manor. Barb enjoyed spending time with her nephews and great nephews and mowing her yard.
Survivors include her sisters, Veronica O'Keefe, of Fostoria, Rosalind O'Keefe, of Wellington, Andrea Stemple, of Grafton, and Patrice Rogers, of Wellington; nephews Jim, Matthew, Steven, and Patrick; and several great-nieces and nephews. Barb was preceded in death by her brother James O'Keefe
Friends and family will be received on Sunday, January 15, from 2-6 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday beginning at 10 a.m. at St Patrick Catholic Parish, 512 North Main St., Wellington. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington.
