In Loving Memory of Barbara Ann Riedy
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Ann Riedy, 64, of New London. She passed away Monday, September 29, 2025, with a house full of her favorite sounds, the voices of her husband, children, and grandkids.
Barbara was born June 17, 1961, to David and Beverly Wetten. She brought a joyous smile and a heart full of love into the world. Barbara attended EHOVE and graduated from New London High School. Soon after, she opened her own salon, where she made others feel their best and brought beauty into the world through her work and spirit.
On May 2, 1987, Barbara married David Riedy, and together they began a journey filled with love, laughter, and faith. Through all of life's ups and downs, they built a home that radiated warmth and joy, and were blessed with many children.
Barbara had her first child at 21 and quickly discovered the role she was born to fulfill: mother. As a dedicated and loving mom, she led by example, showing her children what it means to put family first and that it's never too late to chase your dreams.
Amid the joyful chaos of a house full of children, Barbara realized her calling to teach. She pursued her dream with determination, graduating from Ashland University in 2001 with honors. She became a beloved teacher at South Central, where she changed lives, one book, one child, and one smile at a time, for 24 incredible years.
Barbara lived life for her passions: family, teaching, reading, music and quilting. These passions not only brought her joy but also inspired her children to live with purpose and focus on the things that matter most.
Barbara will be forever loved and missed. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, David Riedy; her children, Brittany Westerfield (John Westerfield), Ashley Cornell (Kimmie McKenzie), Jordan Campbell, Callie Patton (Jeremy Patton), Taylor Riedy (Rian Riedy), Macala Riedy, and Mayve Riedy (Eric Hicks); her brother, David Wetten Jr.; her sister, Maria Diaz; and her ten beautiful grandkids, Charlotte Westerfield, Addison Cornell, Keegan Cornell, Kaley Patton, Caenan Riedy, Abram Riedy, Corinne Riedy, Gabriella Riedy, Elijah Cross, and Thorin Hicks. Her memory will live on in our hearts, encouraging us to live each day to the fullest with gratitude, love and joy.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Wetten Sr.; her mother, Beverly Wetten; and her daughter, Charlene Riedy.
Visitation hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2025, and from 10 a.m. until time of Barbara's memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Eastman Funeral Home, New London.
Anyone who knew Barbara knows of her love for flowers, so you are welcome to send floral arrangements to the service. However, she was also passionate about education, especially reading. In lieu of flowers, a wonderful tribute would be donations in her name to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, so that Barbara can continue to inspire children to love reading.
