Obituary of Barbara C. Riethmuller
Barbara C. Riethmuller, 85, of Oxford, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at Lopatcong Care Center.
Born on April 30, 1940, in Newark, New Jersey, Barbara was the daughter of the late William and Stella Cherosnick. She grew up in Irvington, New Jersey, and on September 30, 1961, married her beloved husband of 50 years, the late William C. Riethmuller Jr. Together they made their home in Oxford, where they lovingly raised their four children.
Barbara worked as a babysitter in Oxford for many decades, caring for countless children in the community, many of whom remember her fondly. During the summer months, she could always be found at Oxford Furnace Lake, where she dedicated over 30 years of service and retired as the Lake Director. Known affectionately by many throughout the community, Barbara was truly a staple at the lake and will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and friendly presence.
When her daughters were young, Barbara also spent many years coaching their softball teams, always supporting and encouraging them. Above all, Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always put her family's needs before her own.
She is survived by her son, William C. Riethmuller III and his partner Nicki; daughters Maggie Manners, Patti Stookey and her husband Eric, and Tracy Genest and her husband Eric; step-son William Nugent; step-daughter Carol Donatelli and her husband Guy; sisters Carol O'Brien and her husband James, and Arlene Denner; grandchildren Justin, Jessica, Jordan, Samantha, Hannah, Eric, Matt, Michael, Jacqueline, Cheyenne, and Danielle; and five great-grandchildren.
Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband, William C. Riethmuller Jr; her parents, William and Stella Cherosnick; her brother, William Cherosnick Jr; her sister, Terry Adams; and her great-grandson, James.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, November 2, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 142 West Washington Avenue, Washington, NJ 07882. A service of remembrance will be held at the funeral home at 4:45 p.m.
