Barbara Roberts Roach, 90, went home to be with The Lord Monday, December 5, 2023, at her granddaughter's home surrounded by her loving family.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Dr. Greg Robertson officiating. The burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at Stacey and Brian’s home (600 Boyd Road).
Barbara was born in Rockingham County to the late Oliver and Myrtle Motley Roberts. She met the love of her life, Albert in the second grade, and their friendship never wavered and blossomed into a wonderful marriage of over 71 years. Barbara was involved in sports where she served as a cheerleader and shined on the basketball court where her competitive spirit was obvious. She graduated from Wentworth High School and married her childhood sweetheart in 1952. Later Barbara graduated from cosmetology school in Greensboro and started Barbara’s Beauty Shop operating in her home for many years so she could raise her children and serve her family.
She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church and currently attended Growing Oaks Community Church when her health allowed. A woman of grace, dignity and beauty, Barbara will always be remembered for her compassion and sweet, generous spirit. Her tenacious servanthood was expressed over and over by humble acts of kindness and love for anyone and everyone.
Along with her parents, Barbara was also preceded in death by her infant daughter Connie Roach; infant granddaughter Melissa Roach; sisters Ruby R. Meeks, Louise R. Ferguson, and Shirley R. Wimbush; brothers O.B. Roberts, Jr., Otis Roberts, Bill Roberts, Jack Roberts, and Tommy Roberts.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Albert Roach; son Doug Roach (Sandra); daughters Cindy R. Romine (Walter) and Penny A. Roach (Keith); grandchildren Deanna T. Gann, Jamie Townsend, Stacey R. Perkins (Brian), Brian Townsend, Derick Roach (Chelsea), and Broc Howerton; great-grandchildren Tyler Townsend (Breanna), Emma Gann, Griffin Gann, Tucker Perkins, Byant Townsend, Brynn Townsend, Trey Perkins, and Easton Roach; brother Ervin Roberts (Wanda) and a large extended family.
