Barbara Sasala

Andover, Ohio - Barbara Marie Sasala, age 88, died on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, in Ashtabula, Ohio, with her family by her side. She was born on January 4, 1936, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Lillian (Delaney) and James Blaha Sr. Formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, Barb was a 1954 graduate of St. Joseph Acadamy on Rock River Drive. On July 2, 1955, she married Richard Raymond Sasala.
Barb worked for the former Pick n Pay of Cleveland, where she was head cashier and retired at assistant manager after over twenty years of service. After relocating to the Dorset and Andover area, Barb became a member of the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church of Andover, where she became an intracule member, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, a Lecturer, as well as being a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and the Church Mission Society. She enjoyed reading, and doing crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles. Her favorite things were going camping and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barb is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Rick of forty-seven years; her sister, Margie Keating; her brother, Robert Blaha; and her great-grandson, Gabriel James Sasala. Survivors include her three children, Richard S. (Carol) Sasala of Greenville, Tennessee, Ronald J. (Teresa) Sasala of Richmond, Ohio, and Linda J. Ottenweller of Andover, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Cecilia, Richard, Andrew, Joe Kraly, Joseph Sasala, Jonathan, Jeffrey, Jennifer, and Kelly; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and her brother, James Blaha Jr. of Columbus, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 481 South Main Street, Andover, Ohio, with Father, John Ettinger officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, in Cleveland, Ohio. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, July 24th from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 134 Prospect Street, Andover, Ohio, 44003.
