Barbara Jean Stedman, age 90, of Chillicothe, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at her home surrounded by family.
Barb was born on August 9, 1933 in Granite City, IL to Carl Andrew and Opal M (Fowler) Reifsteck. She married Robert Norris Stedman on March 29, 1952 in Chillicothe. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1984. Also preceding her in death are her parents and two sisters, June Bornsheuer and Patsy Keene.
Surviving are her children, Steven Robert (Donna) Stedman of Jackson, MO, Carla Ann (Dennis) Stedman-Meinders of Chillicothe, IL, Brian Lee (Donna) Stedman of Geneseo, IL and Mark William (Deborah) Stedman of Westmont, IL; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her brother, Carl (Hilda) Reifsteck of Chillicothe, IL; and her nieces and nephews.
Barb worked for Caterpillar and for First Federal Savings and Loan in Chillicothe before becoming a mother and raising her family. She was an active member of the Chillicothe First United Methodist Church, was an IVC Booster Club member, a scouts leader, a member of the Moose Club of Taylorville and a youth bowling coach. Barb also enjoyed playing cards and Bridge, golfing, bowling and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears and golf fan. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11am at Chillicothe First United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 9am at the church. Rev. Ron Martz will officiate. Burial will follow at Chillicothe City Cemetery. Memorials in her name may be made to the church. Arrangements are under the care of Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe.
