It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Kay Stegen, a beloved mother, wife, and the cherished matriarch of her family, who left this world on Wednesday, February 25th, 2026. She was 83 years old.
Born on a crisp, late-November day in 1942 in Caddo, Oklahoma, Barbara was a remarkable woman whose life was defined by her brilliance, creativity, and steadfast spirit. As a devoted housewife, she nurtured her family with an unparalleled devotion and wisdom that shaped generations.
Barbara's artistic talents were boundless. She had an uncanny ability to capture beauty, which she expressed through her exquisite stained-glass windows and pottery. Her love for art was matched only by her passion for traveling. Barbara lived an adventurous life, exploring the far reaches of the world, including journeys to Japan and Russia with her beloved husband, Gilbert Stegen. Each trip added threads to the rich tapestry of her experiences, enriching those who had the privilege of hearing her tales.
Her love for horses was profound, a bond that transcended the ordinary. As an avid horse breeder and owner, Barbara had an innate understanding and affection for these magnificent creatures, and she dedicated much of her life to their care and companionship.
She was the heart of her family, a guiding light whose warmth and wisdom will continue to illuminate the paths of those she leaves behind. Her legacy is carried on by her loving children, Sloane A. Stegen and Tara R. Stegen; her beloved brother, Roger Brooks; and her cherished grandchildren, Samantha A. Stegen, Sawyer A. Stegen, James R. Martin-Stegen, and Jacob C. Martin-Stegen, who will strive to honor her memory by exemplifying the values she held dear.
A memorial ceremony to celebrate Barbara's vibrant life will be held on Saturday, March 14th, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Lakeside Funeral Home & Cremation Care in Royal Palm Beach, Florida. Family, friends, and those whose lives Barbara touched are invited to gather, share memories, and pay tribute to a life well-lived.
