Barbara (Barkley) Styers, age 88, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, in Pinckney, Michigan. She was born in Covington, Indiana, where her story began before building a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and family.
Barbara was married to the love of her life, Gerald Styers, for 68 wonderful years. Together, they built a beautiful family and a lifetime of memories. She is survived by her husband Gerald and their four children: Steve Styers (Kris), Cherise Kiel (Henry), Chris Styers (Kelly), and Jeff Styers (Lisa). She was the proud grandmother of Adrian Styers, Joshua Styers, Antonio Sands, Marcus Luna, Gnaajwi Styers, Tim Taulbee (Erin), Haleigh Schroeder (Joshua), Hannah Kiel-Zamesnik (David), Joseph Styers (Alex), and Leah Styers, and the loving great-grandmother of Michael Monroe (Sydney), Carter Schroeder and Hudson Schroeder. She is also survived by her brother Mike Barkley (Brenda), and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mildred Barkley, and by her brothers Fred (Judy), Dale (Judy), and Charles (Belinda) Barkley.
Barbara lived a full and joyful life. She owned the postal service contract at Detroit Metro Airport, where she met countless lifelong friends. Always ready to lend a helping hand, Barbara had a heart for people - whether she was assisting with a postal package or simply offering a kind word and smile.
She also enjoyed her years of service as Chairperson of the Wayne/Westland Title IV Indian Education Program, where she was proud to support the educational success and cultural awareness of Native students in her community.
Barbara loved crocheting, gardening, reading, and traveling, and was always up for new adventures - even donning a sumo wrestling blow-up costume for fun! She stayed active, riding her three-wheeled bike, taking out her paddleboat, or enjoying peaceful rides on her pontoon.
Later in life, Barbara faced medical challenges with remarkable strength and courage. She fought hard to overcome them, meeting each day with faith, hope, and determination.
Above all, Barbara cherished her family. Time spent with them was her greatest joy. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, shaping her generous spirit and kind heart.
Barbara will be remembered for her laughter, her warmth, her faith, and the love she poured into everyone she met.
