Funeral services for Barbara Thue of Starbuck, Minnesota, will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, with Reverend Bryan Taffe officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. A private family burial will take place at a later date, at the Benson City Cemetery in Benson, Minnesota.
Barbara Jane Berg, daughter of Leo and Borghild (Carlson) Berg, was born June 26, 1948 in Starbuck, Minnesota. She grew up and attended country school, later graduating with the Starbuck High School class of 1966. On the night of her graduation, Douglas Erdahl asked for her hand in marriage and they were married April 29, 1967. Barb and Doug made their home in Benson, Minnesota where they raised their two children Mark and Marcia. Barb worked as a secretary at Northside Elementary in Benson starting in 1981 and continued working there until her retirement in 2011. Doug passed away April 7, 1993. Barb was united in marriage to Roger Thue on July 31, 1998. The couple moved to Starbuck, Minnesota where she continued to live until the time of her passing.
Barb was an active member of Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, participating in ladies’ aide, lunch committee and quilting group. She was also a very active member of the Starbuck Community, belonging to many clubs throughout the years. She passed her love of quilting to her granddaughters as well as taught all of her grandchildren a Norwegian dinner prayer. Barb was an amazing baker, making lefse, klub, but most famous for her donuts. She also loved to socialize with friends and hardly every missed the “Friday Night Club!” Family was very important to Barb, especially her children, grandchildren, and her special nieces and nephews who she became a second mother figure to. She will be missed dearly by her friends and family.
Barb passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was 75 years old.
She is survived by her husband: Roger Thue of Starbuck; son: Mark (Kim) Erdahl of Glenwood; daughter: Marcia (Dan) Connolly of Starbuck; five grandchildren: Haley Erdahl, Madison Erdahl, Danielle (Landon) Regan, Karen (Brad) Feela and Matthew Connolly; three great-grandchildren: Presley, Shelby and Marley Feela; brother: LeRoy Berg; sisters-in-law: Sue Berg and June Berg; brother-in-law: Roger (Marlene) Erdahl; sister-in-law: Chloe (Paul) Holtberg; five step-children: Brenda (Patrick) Gegen, Bryan (Bridget) Thue, Bridget (Kevin) Gallagher, Beth (Mike) Tolifson and Christopher (Hilary) Thue; 13 step-grandchildren: Jordan, Kyle, Sean, Ethan, Chloe, Rachel, Brett, Abby, Ashley, Katelyn, Parker, Mila and London; two step-great-grandchildren: Mason and Hudson; Roger’s brothers and brother-in-law: Dennis (Rosemary) Thue, Randy (Jan) Thue and Wayne Lamb and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Douglas Erdahl; her parents; brothers: Leon and Jimmy Berg; and sisters-in-law: Jane Berg, Karen (Tom) Klaahsen and Dorothy Lamb.
