Barbara VanAlstine Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heritage Funeral & Cremation Service on Jan. 28, 2025.
Barbara A. VanAlstine (Hillier), affectionately known to many as "The Cake Lady," passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, at the age of 83. A cherished resident of Palm Coast, Florida, Barbara's life journey also took her to Florence, Kentucky, and Saginaw, Michigan. Her warm heart and generous spirit left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on February 19, 1941, to Catherine (Roth) and Lovell Hillier, Barbara grew up surrounded by love and the strong family values that would guide her throughout her life. On August 25, 1962, she married the love of her life, Philip F. VanAlstine. Their partnership was one of unwavering devotion until Philip's passing in January 2011. Together, they built a family rooted in love, faith, and enduring connection.
Barbara's talent and creativity shone brightly in her renowned cakes, which brought joy to countless celebrations and earned her the beloved title "The Cake Lady." Her artistry was matched only by her warmth and hospitality, making her a treasured presence in her community and among her loved ones.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Lynette VanAlstine, and Steve and Joelle VanAlstine, who were a constant source of pride and joy in her life. Her legacy lives on in her six beloved grandchildren: Blake, Kylie, Jessica, Luke, Josh, and Ethan, whose lives she enriched with her unconditional love and wisdom. Barbara also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever cherish her memory.
In addition to her husband, Philip, Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Lovell Hillier, and her brothers, Robert and Richard, with whom she now rests in eternal peace.
Barbara's kindness, creativity, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to share in her life.
