On Friday October 25, Barbara Ann Wright left this earth surrounded by loved ones after a long health battle. She was loved and adored by her close family, her extended family and her many friends. Barbara, or Aunt Barbie or Aunt Bee as she was known to so many, was the eldest daughter of Prince and Irma (Richardson) White born on June 16, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA. Her parents, along with her two younger siblings Jean & Prince Jr, would eventually return to Southern Chester County (Avondale) where Prince & Irma had been living to continue raising their growing family. Their family unit was completed with the arrival of Clarence, Alice & Arden.
She was a graduate of the Avon Grove School District. After graduation, she went on to Nursing School and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. During this time, she also met and married her husband, William B. Wright, Jr. They welcomed a son and named him William B. Wright III.
During Barbara's early nursing career, she worked for Homemaker Services, an in-home geriatric care provider. She went on to become a team supervisor there. She later worked for Crosslands. Barbara eventually decided to open her own in home care services where she mentored newly graduated Certified Nursing Assistants and helped give specialized care to elderly patients and their families.
It must be said that Barbara's true passions was her family, her food and her faith. And every opportunity to mix the three were a welcome event. After retiring from her nursing career, Barbara became even more active at her church, Mt. Tabor AME Zion Church. She was a member of the choir, did Bible study, did food services at an affiliated shelter, and so much more. Her need to provide healing to people was reignited when she took a class on essential oils and their benefits. This led her to study Reiki healing and Yoga. She became a certified yoga instructor and taught Chair Yoga to other seniors regularly.
Barbara was known and beloved by so many, most of whom called her "Aunt Barbie" whether they were a blood relation or not. She could regularly be counted on to provide a ride, a helping hand, a champion for your cause, sage advice, a warm hello, a cheerleader, a partner in crime or a hug to heal your heart. All in all she was everything to anyone to whom she thought needed her or asked her to be.
"Keep your eyes open, hold tight to your convictions, give it all you've got, be resolute, and love without stopping."
-1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (MSG)
