Barbara Sears Yaeger, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at the Hospice Home surrounded by her family. She was born on March 16, 1938 in Cook County, IL to the late James Joseph Sears and Marguerite Todd Sears.
Barbara, attended two years at the University of Kansas and graduated from Monmouth College, in Monmouth, IL where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gama Sorority and PEO Educational Association. She relocated with her children to Burlington in 1978 where she began her career in management with S&K Menswear. After many years of dedicated service Barbara retired in 2009.
Barbara was a devoted fan of Duke basketball and the Chicago Cubs. When the Cubs won the World Series there was no one happier. Several weeks ago, Barbara received a phone call from Coach K himself. They spent their time conversing about their mutual love of all things Chicago, the Cubs and Duke basketball. In her final years, Barbara enjoyed time with her children, dinners with her friend, Betty Brigman and her days at PACE with her friends and caregivers.
She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Yaeger Gray (Scott) of Newport News, VA and two sons, Robert Scott Yaeger (Bridgette) of Burlington and John Alan Yaeger (Mindy) of Concord, NC; grandchildren, John Gray (Erin), Clyde Gray, Amberly Yaeger; step-grandchildren, Taylor Hornby (Devon), Carson Presson, Brett Presson. She is also survived by her sister, Jeanne Johnson (Ken) of Burlington and her nieces and nephew. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and a son, William Todd Yaeger.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11:00am at St. Paul’s Community Church. The inurnment will be private at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum.
