I was a classmate of Barry Farber at Chapel Hill where he was a liberal Editor of the Daily Tar Heel. He was always polite and thoughtful, and had my respect. I am glad to see that we growth grew together into conservatives. I am sorry I lost contact with him through the years.

I just heard of Barry's passing...I am so sorry for your loss...
I saw Barry when he came to Roanoke, VA at Cave Spring High School for a show a long time ago. It was fabulous!! I was just beginning to listen to Talk Radio and he was a favorite of mine. The next day on his radio show, he told a story about being hungry in the middle of the night while he was staying at the Holiday Inn in Roanoke the night before. He had walked down to the Hardees thru weeds and rough terrain and when he got there, only the "drive thru" was open. He had to beg them to serve him food because he wasn't in a car...needless to say, Barry had me in hysterical laughter! Man, he could tell a great story about anything!! He was so awesome.

Barry was from an era where one needed to be well-read and to have high elocution and oratorical skills to be a broadcaster. And Barry still stood out from the pack in those areas.
I only met him once--standing in a crowded room, with attendees mingling over glasses of wine after a symposium on a social issue at an NYU auditorium in the East Village--but he was extremely gracious, as I expected. My condolences to his family and others close to him.

I grew up listening to Barry. As a child, I didn't know he was a conservative talk show host - kids don't pay attention nor care - he was just a really great host with a great show. Period. RIP Barry.

I listened to Barry since I was aged 15: That was 1970. Also, I'd say he was one of my best history teachers, with talks on programs with great authors and historians.
I have several books from his guests, history, cold-war thrillers, even one "para-normal" book. Barry being a serious journalist and activist (Hungary 1956), also entertained us with guests such as the hypnotist "Polgar". These other genres made for a great show, which today is replicated an/or further distilled by others. Barry was a kind man, a unique New Yorker Southerner who taught me so much. I'll miss Barry. I big regret is--I didn't help him run for mayor (I didn't know him personally then - ouch)

I loved listening to him. I first heard him in the 1960s on WOR - living in the New Jersey suburbs of NYC. Years later, living in Alabama, I heard him one evening and couldn't believe he was still on the radio! He was great, his voice, his points of view, just couldn't get enough of him. Time moves on, but I remember well and am sad to hear of his passing. A great broadcaster, a great American!

As a kid in the 60's I listened to Barry talk about the Hungarian uprising of 1956. On a lighter note I remember things he advertised on the show such as "sand dollars" and the many benefits of cooking on the O'Reilly Ridge Grill. I didn't always agree with him but always found him easy to listen to and entertaining. Another 20th C broadcasting legend, and perhaps one of the last.
