Barry Lee Hanna, 86, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, at Angel Medical Center. Born on June 5, 1939, in Anderson, Indiana, Barry was the beloved son of the late Elmor and Jeanette Hanna.
A proud patriot and devoted family man, Barry served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Navy for 22 years, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. During his service, he was a dedicated member of the Navy shooting team and earned the respect of his peers through his leadership, discipline, and unwavering commitment.
After retiring from the military, Barry continued to serve his community as a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church for 17 years, where he found joy in volunteering especially in the kitchen, where his love for cooking and BBQing shone brightly. He was also a skilled tinkerer of clocks, a passionate weather watcher who shared forecasts with his children, and a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Barry is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Nancy Hanna; his daughter Teresa L. Brydon (George); his son Robert "Bob" Hanna (Sandi); his sister Denna Flora; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
A memorial service to celebrate Barry's life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty Baptist Church, with Reverends Tim Hogsed, Rick Potts, and Davis Hooper officiating.
Visitation will take place at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service. A graveside committal with full military honors will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Hillsdale College, 33 E. College St, Hillsdale, MI 49242, in memory of Barry Hanna.
Fair winds and following seas, Senior Chief. Your watch is complete.
