Barry O'Neal Obituary

Barry Eugene O'Neal, of Savannah, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 13th, 2025.
Known affectionately by his grandchildren as 'Poppy', he was born in Savannah, Georgia, on February 14th, 1961 to Evelyn and Bob O'Neal. A graduate of Memorial Day School, Barry spent his life working in route sales, most recently retiring from RugDoctor, where he was a devoted employee for many years.

Barry spent his downtime watching his two favorite football teams, the University of Georgia Bulldogs and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Every weekend in the fall, Barry loved watching the Bulldogs and Steelers. But really, Barry enjoyed watching any football game, although the Bulldogs' national championship seasons held a special place in Barry's heart.
He was also often accompanied by his sidekick, his granddaughter, Aubrey, who spent countless hours and days with him. She learned Poppy's mannerisms, phrases, and even how to cook like him.

Barry has been married to the love of his life, Barbara O'Neal, a longtime local police officer and public servant, for nearly 40 years. To know Barry was to love him, and to love him was to laugh, cherish, and embrace Barry for who he was - and it was guaranteed he'd do the same for you. Whether he met you walking through a grocery store, or you were a part of his family, Barry held a special charm that few have - he could talk to anyone, about anything, anywhere, and somehow it just always felt right.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Evelyn O'Neal, brother Greg O'Neal, nephew Matt O'Neal, and sister-in-law Kim Spence.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara O'Neal, sons, Kevin O'Neal (Stacey), Patrick O'Neal (Gillian), daughters Amy Burnsed, Ashlyn Romero (Miguel), Kellie O'Neal (Anthony), Leah Lewis (Devyn), brother, Brian O'Neal, brothers-in law, James Spence, Mike Spence (Robin) and Chuck Mock (Leeannah), sisters-in law, Donna Swanson (Kevin) and Susan Murray, 12 (soon to be 13) grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Aside from the numerous 2-legged family members, Barry had several beloved 4-legged friends that he is now spending his eternal days in heaven with. Surely, Barry is now spending his days giving all of the love he can to Nikki, Toby, and Gidget - three dogs that Barry loved as his own children. To those of us back on earth who are missing Barry now, we, as well as anyone else whom Barry made a profound impact on, can rest assured that Barry is at peace and lived the most fulfilling life that he could have.
