A memorial service will be held Friday March 6, 2026, at Hamil Family Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, Texas 79606 with Rev. Jeff Hatcher officiating. A private burial will precede the service.
Bart was born December 3, 1936, in Roxie, Mississippi to Mary Grace and Bart W. Calcote, Sr. In 1955 he graduated from Summit High School in Summit, Mississippi. He attended the University of Houston on a football scholarship for three years, graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1959 with a B.S. degree in Math. Years later, he received his M.B.A. from Hardin Simmons University.
On November 22, 1959, he married Lynda Andrews from McComb, Mississippi. Last November, they celebrated 66 years of marriage. Throughout his life and during his final years with Alzheimer's, he always expressed his love for Lynda and for his sons and grandchildren.
Following graduation from the University of Southern Mississippi, he attended the Army ROTC Combat Infantry School at Ft. Benning, Georgia. After graduation he received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. One year was spent teaching 7th grade math in Hattiesburg, Mississippi before entering the Army. During his two years of service at Ft. Bliss, Texas he served as an Air Defense Officer in a Nike Hercules Missile Battalion. After completing his service in the Army Reserves, he retired with the rank of Captain.
Following his time in the Army, he began work for Hughes Tool Company in Houston as one of the first computer programmers. Later after working for Anderson Clayton, he was transferred to Abilene in 1967 to set up a computer system for ACCO feeds. While working at ACCO feeds, he was very supportive of 4-H clubs and other organizations. He retired as Branch Manager in 1996.
During his senior year in college, he was a member of the National Honor Society, Kappa Mu Epsilon (Mathematics) and Kappa Delta Phi (Education). He also served on the Board of Directors of the Taylor County Expo Center and served on the Marketing Committee for the American Feed Industry Association.
An avid outdoorsman, Bart eagerly looked forward to deer hunting season each fall at Buck Brown's ranch near Mason. "Buck's Boys", as they were called, hunted together for 32 years making lasting friendships. After opening weekend, Bart shared these hunting experiences with his sons, taking them hunting each year.
A used tent Bart and Lynda purchased for $12 in 1966 started a love for camping that spanned over 50 years. Their RV travels took them across the United States and Eastern and Western Canada. He also purchased a 1962 Willy's Jeep from Lynda's dad and spent many years exploring the mountains in Colorado and New Mexico. He taught his sons and granddaughter, Mackenzie, how to drive in his "Pink Jeep".
Bart was preceded in death by their son, William Bradley Calcote, his parents Mary Grace and Bart W. Calcote, Sr. and his brother Lt. Col. (Ret.) James Donald Calcote.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Lynda, sons Steven (Donna) of Bronte, Texas and Scott (Diane) of Colorado City, Texas, his brother William (Theresa) of Waco, Texas, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Al Andrews (Karen) of Memphis, Tennessee.
