Mr. Basil G. Howard

On September 2, 2024, Basil George Howard beloved husband of Olive (Lee) Howard of 76 years, dear father of Leslie Grimes (Lynn), Peter Howard (Carmen), and the late Russell Howard: Grandfather of Jonathan Grimes, Eric Grimes, Rachel Grimes (James Ellenberg), Alexander Howard, Andrew Howard, and Brandon Howard. Great Grandfather of Erica Grimes, Benson Grimes and Luke Ellenberg.
Basil was born in Ealing England on March 23, 1922 and spent his time there until the age of 19 when he was conscripted from college into the Merchant Navy where he served as an officer on a tanker ship during World War II.
In 1951 he left England and came to the United States to explore new opportunities. He worked at Cross & Blackwell and then moved on to a position with J. H. Filbert Co., which at the time was owned by the Filbert family, where he held the position of Executive Vice President at the time of his retirement.
While there he spearheaded the product development, naming and launch of Mrs. Filbert's product I Can't Believe It's Not Butter.
He was a member of Hillendale Country Club for many years, where he was an avid tennis player.
He enjoyed summer vacations in Ocean City, Maryland and made yearly trips back to England where he visited with family and friends.
A private family service is planned for the near future with a celebration of life to be held at a later date
