Beatrice Cornell Obituary

Beatrice G. Cornell, formerly of Wappingers Falls and a resident of Red Hook, NY, was Called Home peacefully to rest on January 14, 2026 at her home; at the age of 106 years old. She was born on November 13, 1919 in Wilmington, DE, daughter of the late Lawrence R. & Julia (nee Byrne) Maenner.

On April 26, 1941 at the Ascension Catholic Church in Bowie, MD, Malcolm D. Cornell, who predeceased her after 41-years of marriage on September 7, 1982.

She was a devoted wife and loving mother; Beatrice was a former parishioner of the St. Martin de Porres Parish in Poughkeepsie. She was a member and enjoyed attending the Rhinebeck Seniors. She also enjoyed playing card games and other games, and was an avid bowler in her younger years.

Beatrice is survived by her six children: Malcolm D. Cornell, Michael D. Cornell, Mary Dolores Shultis and her husband Eugene, Lawrence R. Cornell and his wife Karen, Joseph A. Cornell and his wife Sandra, Julia A. Cornell and her husband David Mergendahl. She is also survived by her 23 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren & great-great-grandchildren.

Along with her husband and parents, Beatrice was predeceased by three grandchildren, Mark Langridge, June West and Suzanne Chennault; and her four sisters.

As per her wishes, there will be no-calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM, Saturday, January 24, 2026 at the St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie, New York. Her Family will receive Friends starting 10:30AM prior to Mass. Interment will be private at a later date in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls, New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorial donation to be made in Beatrice's memory to Shriners Children Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 and/or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
