Beatrice Lydia Ponterio passed away on October 14, 2023, with her beloved family by her side at the age of 94. Born to Julio Dougherty and Berta Castillo de Dougherty on April 29, 1929 in Guatemala. She is survived by her husband, Walter Sorensen, and her three loving sons, Arthur, Frank, and Anthony Ponterio. Beatrice is also remembered by her dear siblings, Sylvia Scott Burton and Donald Dougherty.
Beatrice, affectionately known as Beady, was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many. She had a deep passion for tennis, displaying her dedication on the court with grace and skill. Her talent as a painter allowed her to create beautiful works of art that continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to witness her creativity. Beady also cherished the simple pleasures in life most especially being a Starbucks enthusiast.
Her legacy is not only found in her accomplishments but also in her role as a beloved grandmother. Beatrice adored her grandchildren, Rachael, Jessica, Kensy, Christopher, Kylie Ponterio, Jonathan, and Alexander Hernandez. She shared her wisdom, warmth, and love with them, leaving a lasting mark on their lives.
Beatrice Ponterio's journey began at Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont, CA, where she pursued her education, setting the stage for a life filled with curiosity and knowledge. She continued her connection with the community as an active member of her parish, St. Bartholomew in San Mateo.
One of Beady's most cherished qualities was her love for bringing people together. She found immense joy in hosting gatherings and celebrations in her home, where friends and family could share in each other's company. Her generosity and welcoming spirit left an enduring impression on those fortunate enough to attend these memorable occasions.
Beatrice Lydia Ponterio will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her vivacious spirit and will forever be remembered. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the long life she led and the profound impact she had on the lives of those around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Friends are invited to visit from 4 to 8 p.m. (with a vigil service at 7 p.m.) Thursday, October 26, 2023 at the Crosby – N. Gray & Co. Funeral Home, 2 Park Road, Burlingame, and the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 27 at St. Bartholomew's Church. Services will conclude at the church.
