Bebe Joyce Hubbard, 95, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025. Bebe was born on May 7, 1930 to Bertie (Benge) and Cullen Moore. She was raised on a small farm in Cherokee County, TX, and attended New Summerville and Jacksonville schools. After high school, Bebe went to Lon Morris Jr. College and then to Stephen F. Austin University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1951. She later attended East Texas State University (now East Texas A&M), where she earned a master’s degree in education. Bebe taught elementary grades in the Garland and Hudson ISDs for over 15 years.
Proceeded in death by her parents, husband of 58 years, Joe Donald Hubbard, and sister, Ann Blakeney, Bebe is survived by her son, Joe Donald Hubbard, Jr. and his wife, Cindy; her daughter, Kay Green and her husband, Tommy; granddaughters Becca Hubbard (Melanie) and Emma Hubbard Leonard (Andy), as well as beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Bebe met the love of her life, Joe Hubbard, at Lon Morris. She always said it was love at first sight. They married on March 20, 1951. She worked as a secretary at S.F.A. and then at UT-Austin while Joe pursued his master’s degree there. Following his graduation, they moved to Baltimore, MD, where he served in the Army from 1954-1956. After the Army, they lived in Irving and Garland, TX, for 28 years. In 1984, they moved back to their roots in East Texas. Bebe moved from Lufkin, TX, to Southlake, TX, in 2012 to be closer to family.
Bebe was a faithful volunteer at each church where she was a member: Western Heights Christian-Garland, First Christian-Lufkin and First United Methodist-Grapevine. She was one of those who delighted in doing the “behind-the-scenes” work and the quiet spaces – often with a Diet Coke nearby. She did what needed to be done regardless of credit or applause. From serving as the pastor’s secretary to choir member, to preparing newsletters for the post office and stuffing bulletins, to making or coordinating more meals than we can count for church events and homebound members, to helping organize the church library and reading with GCISD
Kindergarteners, Bebe accomplished those things that are precious and necessary in the life of the church. Her fingerprints are all over countless lives. Being a devoted volunteer extended into her community, as she also served with the P.T.A. during the years Don and Kay were in elementary and jr. high schools. Bebe and Joe both had degrees in education and, through their life-long passion for learning, six scholarships were established at institutions of higher learning.
Bebe’s deep love for her family and friends was demonstrated in so many ways. She was fun-loving, especially when playing 42 with family, and was a wonderful cook, baker and skilled seamstress. Even in her last days, she was always asking how she could help others. She showed great compassion to all God’s creatures, feeding the wild ones, and having cats in her home most of her life. Her gifts of kindness, gentleness and generosity will live on.
Our thanks to dear friends and caregivers that loved and helped care for Bebe in the past few years. She looked forward to their visits and playing Chinese Checkers (which she usually won) and working jigsaw puzzles. She liked to celebrate those times with lots of smiles and high fives! The family is also grateful to the Harbor Chase nurses and staff for providing good care, and for the special friendships made with other families there.
