Becky Winann Howell (Hackel), of Mesquite, TX, passed away in the evening of October 29, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born on June 16, 1958, in Topeka, Kansas and was a proud alumna of Topeka High School.
When Becky was little, she learned to play the accordion and competed in numerous musical competitions. She also was part of the Madrigal A Cappella Choir and performed in many theatrical performances where she bragged on her mom for hand making all of her costumes. She carried her amazing musical talents into our home and would pull out her accordion on multiple occasions where she'd play all sorts of songs, while singing along. Becky moved to Texas in 1976 when she was a mere 18 years old so that she could follow her dream of having her own family and embark on a new adventure.
Becky was known for her fighting spirit, loving nature, and big heart. She dedicated her life to her family and her beloved fur babies. She took great pride in her work at McWhorter Elementary where she devoted over twenty years in special education. She loved her work family dearly as well as all of the children she was able to teach and make a difference for.
Prior to her career in education, Becky was a stay-at-home mom who baby sat to lend a hand to other families. Before this, she worked for Timberlawn, a mental health rehabilitation facility. Needless to say, her work continuously led her in the direction of helping others.
Throughout her life, she maintained a strong and resilient character, always ready to support and uplift those around her despite anything life would throw her way. Her sense of humor and laughter was contagious and her love for her TV shows and funny commercials did not go unnoticed by anyone who knew her.
Becky leaves behind a loving family: her children, Brandon, Whitney (husband Wesley Mask), and April (husband Mark Carr); grandchildren, Dylan Carr and Madelynn Mask; and her fur babies: Jet, Cruz and Patches. She is also survived by her sister, Lindy Myer and nephews, Richard Myer III (wife Rachel) and Anthony Myer (wife Jessica). Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Winifred Hackel.
Becky's life was a testament to her enduring kindness, love for her family and unwavering strength and courage. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
