Mr. Ben Alton Beverley, Jr., departed his life peacefully at his home and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 21, 2025. He was the son of the late Ben Alton Beverley, Sr. and Jean Mae Anderson and raised by Haywood and Matrice Anderson, also known as Mae. In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by one brother, Gregory Smith.
Ben was baptized at an early age and was a member of New Dearington Baptist Church, Lynchburg, Virginia. He remained faithful in service and on duty as an usher.
Ben was educated in the Lynchburg public schools’ system and graduated from Lynchburg College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. He served a tour of duty in the United States Navy. He worked at a law firm and financial institution in Washington, DC, before coming back to Lynchburg to drive a cab for his father’s cab business. Ben later became the owner of his own cab business Allied Cabs, which still is in service today. He married the love of his life Hazel Christian and out of that union they had three beautiful daughters.
Ben was kindhearted and cheerful. He always had a conversation with anyone, no one was a stranger. Those who knew Ben knew that he had his moments, but at the end of the day he was a great guy.
He leaves to cherish his memories one son, Herbert Harvey of Lynchburg, VA, three daughters, Benita Beverley of Richmond, VA, Bianca Crews (Carlos) of Lynchburg, VA, and Brianna Beverley of Lynchburg, VA, two sisters, Norma Jean Moody (Stanley) of Hyattsville, MD, and Linda Payne (Larry) of Bowie, MD, one uncle, Marvin Anderson,” Uncle Tootie” and a many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Ben’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025, at New Dearington Baptist Church. A public visitation take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow immediately after the service at the Baptist Cemetery.
