Harry J. Bandgren Jr.

Harry J. Bandgren Jr, 94, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away Monday, December 22, 2025. Harry was born in Muskegon, Michigan, and was a graduate of North Muskegon High School in 1949. Harry attended the University of Michigan Engineering School, graduating in January 1958, with a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from June 1952 to June 1956.
Mr. Bandgren was employed by the Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas before coming to Huntsville in 1963 to work for Brown Engineering. In 1964 he began his career with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. He worked with NASA until he retired in 1994. While working at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, he participated in all the major programs including Saturn I, Saturn IB, Saturn V, Orbital Work Shop, and Space Shuttle. While with NASA, he worked in the field of vibrations and acoustics, finishing his career as Chief of Marhsall's Vibration and Acoustics Group. During his time with NASA, he earned numerous recognitions and awards for his exemplary service, culminating with the NASA EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE MEDAL.
As an active member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, he served as an usher and member of the Men's Club. Harry was an avid boater and member of the Lake Guntersville Yacht Club for 25 years and maintains a current Honorary Membership.
Mr. Bandgren was preceded in death by his father, Harry John Bandgren, Sr; mother, Josephine Bandgren; sisters, Beatrice Matilda Hanson and Harriett Sirianni; and son, John Marshall Bandgren.
Survivors include his wife of over 47 years, Ann Malone Bandgren; son, Michael James Bandgren; grandson, Andrew Bandgren; daughter, Nancy Jo Elizabeth Bandgren; stepson, Wesley Wade Wilson (wife, Wendy); and grandchildren, Duncan, Erin and Brenna Wilson.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 10am at St Stephens Episcopal Church.
