Ben Singleton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Patrick H. Sanders Funeral Home & Funeral Directors, Inc. - LaPlace on Feb. 16, 2026.
The Life Story of Ben Singleton, Jr.

1936 - 2026

Ben Singleton, Jr. was born on October 9, 1936, in Belle Terre, Louisiana to the late Ben Singleton, Sr. and Ophelia Stewart. On Friday, February 13, 2026, God called him home and he peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord.

Ben was a lifelong resident of St. Charles Parish and was educated in the St. Charles Parish School System. As a young man, he assumed responsibility for his family and left his formal education to work at Avondale Shipyard to support his family. He was a faithful and dedicated employee, serving with commitment and integrity for 35 successful years until his retirement. Beyond his professional career, he was deeply involved in his community. He proudly served with the Killona Fire Department as the treasurer and a firefighter, demonstrating courage, responsibility, and a heart of service.

Ben received Jesus Christ as he Lord and Savior at a young age. He joined Bethlehem Baptist Church under the late Pastor Sidney Davis, where he faithfully served on the deacon board. Later, under the leadership of Pastor Rodney Johnson, Sr., he continued his devoted service by assisting with baptisms and carrying out various church duties until his health began to decline. His life reflected unwavering faith, dedication, and a servant's heart.

Ben was joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life, the late Eva Cannon Singleton and was married for 32 years. To this union, 3 children were born: Connie Singleton Johnson, Marvin Singleton, and Krissy Singleton Brumfield.

He found joy in working with his hands and had true gift for carpentry. Whether building something from scratch or repairing what was broken, he took pride in craftmanship, and the satisfaction of a job well done. A devoted fan of the New Orleans Saints, Sundays were reserved for cheering on his team, celebrating every victory and standing loyal throughout every season.

Ben's legacy of love lives on through his devoted children, Connie Singleton Johnson (Cedric), Marvin Singleton (Enica) and Krissy Singleton Brumfield (Jerard); grandchildren; Cedric Johnson, Jr. (Amirah), Jermon Johnson (Jusytce), Jalen, Jamari and Jade Singleton, Ronald (Tre) Evans, III, Shaye Brumfield, and God willing one great grandbaby on the way. He is survived by his sons-in-law, Cedric Johnson, Sr. and Jerard Brumfield and daughter-in-law Enica Toney Singleton; two sisters-in-las Catherine Cannon Pierre and Barbara Cannon Francis; two brothers-in-law; Minnon (Nick)Cannon and Michael Cannon; godchildren Cynthia LaGrange Molliere, Sherrie Wilson and Melvin Thomas; his devoted friends Jerry Darensbourg and Wilson Raymond, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the late Eva Cannon Singleton, his parents, Ben Singleton, Sr. and Ophelia Stewart, sisters Dorothy Mae Gross and Ethel Mae Washington, and brothers, Wilson Singleton and O'Neal Singleton. His in-laws; Saviour and Eva Cannon, Velma Cannon Gullage, Fern Cannon Gullage and Jane Cannon Johnson.

Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, officers and members of Historic Bethlehem Baptist Church and all neighboring Churches are invited to the Celebration of Life Services at 11:00am on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Historic Bethlehem Baptist Church, 14989 River Road, Hahnville, LA 70057, Rev.
