Benedict J. Pacyna

Benedict J. "Benny" or "Ben" Pacyna, 96, of New Britain, died at home on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023. He was the beloved husband for 65 years of the late Elizabeth "Betty" Eleanor (Kilby) Pacyna. Born in New Britain, son of the late Rosalie (Rembisz) and Joseph Pacyna, he was a lifelong City resident. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. He joined Jensen Machine Co. where he was the machinist foreman for 45 years. He was a member of St. Jerome Church. Ben loved to travel with his family and stayed active throughout his life. He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed golfing, swimming, hiking, fishing, ice skating, bowling and making huge kites for his kids from old shop blueprints. He was an avid coffee and pastry lover and enjoyed polkas, Polish food and making pierogi and the best home fries for family and friends. Benny was always willing to help those in need and had a way of touching lives. He will be missed by many.

Devoted to his family, he leaves six children, Betty Ann Kunda, Lawrence Pacyna, Nancy Pacyna, Cynthia Pacyna, Patricia Zyjewski, Joann Pacyna; four grandchildren, Michelle Harter, Shawn Burgos and wife Amy, Lawrence Pacyna, Jr., Jesse Pacyna; eight great grandchildren; brother-in-law Richard Kilby, and wife Ann, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two grandchildren Wendy Pacyna and Joseph Sgroi, and nine siblings, Mary O'Connor, Sophie Toffolon, Ann Ricci, John, Edward, Lawrence, Peter, Helen, and Eugene Pacyna. His family would like to thank Oxford Homecare staff who assisted in caring for our dad, especially Victoria Karas for her kindness and compassion as she cared for Ben for the last few years.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Burritt Hill, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Jerome Church, New Britain. He will be laid to rest with military honors in the CT State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
