Benedith Gounder Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. on Apr. 5, 2025.
Benedith "Bonnie" Olwen Gounder, of Shillington, recently celebrating her 100th birthday, passed peacefully on March 1, 2025.
Born in Blakley, Lackawanna County, PA, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Mabel (Johns) Morgan. She was the wife of Berks County radio personality Jack B. Gounder. They celebrated 58 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2007.
Bonnie and Jack met at the Pennsylvania Naval Hospital while serving in the U.S. Navy during WW 1. She was a 50+ year member of the Order of the Easter Star serving as Worthy Matron on two separate occasions. Active in Shrine, she supported Jack thru being Potentate and President of Mid-Atlantic Shrine Association, as well as the Ladies Auxiliary of Rajah Temple.
Her activity with Immanuel United Church of Christ of Shillington spanned from sitting in a pew every Sunday and holiday to working in the office. Bonnie was a former Girl Scout Leader, served as secretary of the Shillington Republican Club and was a former President of the Governor Mifflin-Cumru PTA.
Bonnie is survived by her daughter Jill B. Gounder, son-in-law Jody Durham, granddaughter Caroline Hodges and great granddaughter Hayden Jaymes Hodges. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Marion Matweyiw.
Bonnie left this world as she lived it, on her own terms and timeline. She loved the Phillies, the Eagles and the Fightin Phils. May she and Jack be doing the Pennsylvania Polka together once again.
Bonnie will be laid to rest next to Jack at Laureldale Cemetery, Tuckerton. Please honor Bonnie by contributing to Rajah Shriners Hospital, P.O. Box 40, Blandon, PA 19510. The Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Shillington, is assisting the Gounder family. www.kleefuneralhome.com
