Capt. Benny Arispe Jr.
March 22, 1948 – February 7, 2025
It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Benito Garza Arispe Jr., known to many as Capt. Benny, on February 7, 2025, at the age of 76. His passing comes exactly three years to the day of the loss of his beloved wife, Nympha "Nancy" Arispe, with whom he shared an eternal love.
Born and raised in Rockport-Fulton, Capt. Benny’s life was shaped by his deep connection to the sea and honoring his country. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Germany before returning home to pursue a career as a Master Crane Operator, contributing to various projects across the country including in St. Croix, USVI.
Capt. Benny’s life was defined by his love for the water whether it was shrimping the bays, boating rides with family or deep-sea fishing, he fulfilled his lifelong dream by opening Capt. Benny’s Seafood and Oyster Bar in Fulton in 1999—a local favorite until it was lost to Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
Capt. Benny loved spending time with his family and friends, especially in California where you would find him cooking up incredible dishes, watching baseball, attending horse races, boating, and playing poker. Family was everything to him! His loving family and friends will forever cherish his memories in their hearts.
Capt. Benny was a man of strong faith which included fellowship at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Father Ray Yrlas), Victory Chapel Church (Brother Boyce Laqua), and Incarnate Word Academy CC.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Nympha “Nancy” Arispe (’22), son Benito Arispe III (’24), mother Virginia Garza Arispe, father Benito Arispe Sr., and siblings Juan Montez, Gilbert Arispe, Anthony Arispe, and Maggie Arispe.
